Many individuals’s favourite segments from Atlas Shrugged are mine too. (See right here and right here.) However there are quite a lot of shorter segments that I significantly like.

Right here’s one on little one labor (p. 92 of the paperback.)

Francisco d’Anconia, at age 12, hides from Mrs. Taggart (Dagne’s mother) the truth that he’s working over the summer time at Taggart Transcontinental. Mrs. Taggart lastly wises up and catches him. Right here’s the dialogue:

“Francisco,” she [Mrs. Taggart] requested, when she introduced him dwelling, “what would your father say about this, if he knew?”

“My father would ask whether or not I used to be good on the job or not. That’s all he’d wish to know.”

“Come now, I’m severe.”

Franciso was her politely, his courteous method suggesting centuries of breeding and drawing rooms; however one thing in his eyes made her really feel unsure in regards to the politeness. “Final winter,” he answered, “I shipped out as a cabin boy on a cargo steamer that carried d’Anconia copper. My father seemed for me for 3 months however that’s all he requested once I got here again.”

I first learn Atlas Shrugged a couple of days after my seventeenth birthday and I had had various jobs in my early second decade. Not this thrilling, in fact and never full time. However nonetheless, I associated.
